01 / PLANNING NOTES
Start with the trip you want to have.
A private villa with friends feels different from a resort escape for two. Begin with your priorities: beach time, nature, food, surf, or a celebration. For a short trip, our starting approach is one comfortable base with a few well-chosen experiences.
- Choose your must-have experience before adding extra stops.
- Build quiet time into the itinerary.
- Agree on bedroom needs and a shared budget before comparing villas.
02 / PLANNING NOTES
Choose the airport and the stay together.
The Costa Rica Tourism Board identifies Liberia (LIR) as a convenient gateway to Guanacaste and San José (SJO) as a gateway to the Central Pacific and onward domestic connections. Road conditions, weather, and traffic can make a small distance take longer than expected.
We compare the complete journey: flight timing, the transfer to your accommodation, and the return to the airport. A lower airfare is useful only when the rest of the trip still works.
03 / PLANNING NOTES
Compare the full villa or resort cost.
For a villa, compare bedrooms, access, housekeeping, deposits, groceries, chef arrangements, and transport. For a resort, compare the room category, meals, activity inclusions, and what requires an extra charge.
- A private pool or sea view is one part of the decision.
- Check the cancellation terms before committing.
- Make room in the budget for the experiences you actually want.
04 / PLANNING NOTES
Let the region guide your dates.
The Pacific coast has more defined dry and green seasons; Caribbean weather patterns differ. The tourism board generally describes the dry period as mid-December to late April and the green period as May into December. Conditions vary by region, so we check your specific dates and plans.
A suggested five-night rhythm: arrive and settle in, enjoy a beach day, choose one guided nature outing, leave a flexible day, then enjoy a final day close to your stay. This is a planning example, not a bookable package.
